History of Isolated Rails

While not much history is available on the car itself, the rails it sits on have an interesting past. This area, Leaside, was originally conceived by the Canadian Northern Railway in 1913. It was to be an industrial district surrounding their maintenance facility with rail spurs coming off the mainline. Over the years, the area has moved away from heavy industry. Much of it has been replaced by shopping plazas or storage facilities, but some industrial sites, including the building adjacent to the railcar, remain.

This bulk cargo railcar has sat for at least five years. It's completely disconnected from the CP mainline. The previous tenants seem to have used rail freight, but the current ones rely entirely upon trucking. The Keywell Corporation, based out of North Carolina, owns the car. I'm not entirely sure how it made its way to an industrial park in Toronto. Given that local freight is nowhere near as popular as it once was, It will most likely stay where it sits, slowly decaying, until it gets scrapped.
