Dearborn Chemical Company

There are three gates, two of which are covered in barbed wire. There is also a warning about audio/video surveillance around the back. Two of the gates are in full view of a bustling street.

This building has quite the illustrious history! I was intrigued to see that broken windows (specifically the one in the lower left of the building's front-facing portion) had persisted for years, seemingly despite the construction going on. It gave this building a feeling of being renovated and yet going nowhere at the same time.

I was unable to find much about the Dearborn Chemical Company. It appears in StatsCan publications from 1949 and 1950, as well as a study on corrosion protection from 1969 in Appendix A. BlogTO has an article going over what Dundas St. West looked like in 1935, which is where I sourced my first two images from. It was also part of a consideration to be a part of Toronto's Inventory of Heritage Properties in 2009, though I'm not sure if that went anywhere. If anyone has more history on this building, I'd love to know about it.
