The Wheaton Covered Bridge named for Thomas Wheaton is about 51m long and crosses the Tantramar River which comes out of the Bay of Fundy, seeing some of the most dramatic tide changes in the world. The current structure was presumed to be built in 1916. However, it’s thought to be the second bridge built here as this bridge was the main crossing for New Brunswick-Nova Scotia travellers and settlers up until another bridge was built in 1840 where the current trans-canada highway is. Most of the traffic was diverted away from the Wheaton Covered Bridge at this time.
