History of Pond Mills Cemetery

Pond Mills Pioneer Cemetery established 1825 is a historic Westminister Township designated burial ground that began in 1825 in the “Scotch Settlement” on the West Bank of the North Pond.

ThebPond Mills Cemetery is considered a Heritage Site. On May 12, 1825, the first person was buried. There was neither an undertaker or minister to assist in the burial of Mrs. Elliot(first name Jennet)Grieve, and her husband fashioned a rude coffin from wooden slabs. Such was the humble beginnings of the Pond Mills Cemetery. Over 135 of the original settlers and their descendants are buried here. This is the greatest number than any other London Cemetery.
