The Pontypool Grain Elevator was built in 1918, and is one of two remaining freestanding grain elevators in Ontario. Currently abandoned, it was donated by Canadian Pacific Railways to the "Friends of the Pontypool Elevator" heritage group. It is hoped that it can be restored and declared a historic site. It will serve as a tourist information centre as well as a Jewish Heritage Museum.
The Grain Elevator is located in the village of Pontypool. The Canadian Pacific Railway track runs right by. Their is also an abandoned shed behind some trees. Beside the shed one can find the foundations of the old train station with the original tracks still in place..

I just came across this bit of info on the web: "Once restored it will become a tourist information centre and the Jewish Museum recognizing those Jewish citizens who summered in Pontypool 1920-1960.” As per Kathy Morton Manvers Historical Society"
I have no clue .. I just came across that tidbit of info on a website somewhere. I'd be interested in finding out ... :)
I've been meaning to get photos of it for the site too. Thanks for sharing...Aren't the grain elevators at Uxbridge, Markham, Unionville, Washago, Kleinburg, etc free standing ones?

I adjusted the GPS and the shed is gone now by the looks of it.
