This old coaling tower was built in 1944 for the steam locomotives, the coal would be dumped from a hopper car into the reservoir and then elevated through the tower and then dumped into the locomotive's tender. Most of these towers were abandoned in the 1950's-1960's with the modernization of the diesel locomotives, these became useless and the cost of demolishing them was too expensive so, most still exist today. This location seems to be a quite popular place amongst locals with the amount of tagging and garbage laying around. It is located on CN property, but is quite easy to get to and worth checking out if you are in the area.
