The Muskoka Wildlife Centre was lucky enough to have hosted over 300,000 visitors over the 13 years they were open. Developments to Highway 11 have made it impossible for them to continue operating. A big thanks to BPS for the heads-up on the vacant status of this location. After three trips by it over the last several weeks, I finally found an owner vehicle in the parking lot with the front door wide open. I went in to inquire why the centre had closed and found the interior deserted, but could hear voices out back behind the building. Returning with my camera, I broke a cardinal rule of exploring - I put my camera in "automatic" mode for a handful of very rapid interior shots and quickly left.

TESTIMONIAL ON CLOSING FROM OWNER WEBSITE:

Many of our animal friends will continue to be a part of Speaking of Wildlife, our renowned live-animal outreach program, and while they will not be on public display any more, they will continue to travel and teach with caring individuals that have been looking after them for many years. All of our precious creatures that do not travel with Speaking of Wildlife have found new homes throughout Canada and will continue to help people learn about their species from each of their new respective wildlife centre and zoo homes. We would like to thank all of you (our visitors and sponsors) for many years of patronage and support. It is our hope that we were able to inspire and educate our visitors about the importance of preserving our provinces wildlife through our exhibits, our Meet the Creatures sessions and most importantly, through the stories of our wild residents.

FUTURE EXPLORATION STATUS:
Should be plenty to still explore. Even if the building is not accessible, there must still be quite a bit of infrastructure in the forested property behind it.

Very cool find GS! Always sad when a place like this closes shop.
