The former site of Christ Church Anglican Church, this was the main meeting place in the small pioneer community of Purbrook. After the church closed, it was immediately torn down, much to the dismay of local residents. It is said the church was much larger and in better condition than the surviving church in nearby Fraserburg, not to mention a very unique architecture.
I cannot find any historical photographs of the church, but what I did find in the bush where the church once stood was a pleasant surprise. The site of the church itself is now overgrown, being reclaimed by the forest, but here, back in the forest amongst the pines and undergrowth remains a small wishing well, perhaps once used by the pioneers to water their horses while attending their weekly rituals at the church.

Today, all that remains is the cemetery, the stones weathered and worn from years of Muskoka winters, and the small well, hidden from view and surviving quite well as a testament to the quality construction of the time.

The great goaltender, Roger Crozier was from nearby Bracebridge, but I can find nothing to link him to the Crozier buried here, can you?
