Opening in 1946 and closing in 2012. Timken Has been a huge part of St.Thomas. Sponsoring the 2 rink ice center in town. In 2008 the 3rd shift got laid off and everyone involved knew what it meant. Finally closing it doors Sept 30 2012. Links for more info.
I have had my eye on this one for awhile. In 2008 I did some work in the plant and hearing it would be closing I was already looking at it and waiting. Then comes today. After 3 duds before it I told myself I wasn't going home empty handed. With 24/7 security I know the only to get past them was for them to let me in.
I walked up to the security office and tell them that I am here to do retakes for the virtual tour. I had on a safety vest, glasses and steel toe boots. (I must be legit right?) He lets me in and was with me for about 5 mins. He then says "Ok, I have some other things to do so I'll let you to it." After about an hour I meet up with him and he then shows me the places I have missed. after about 2 hours total. He walks me to the door and we shake hands and I go.
Made it FM2 for the story more than the location.

Flat out phenomenal. I think I might just emulate your idea with the John Deere plant in Welland. The lab photos are the great... and the new avatar pic with you presumably in the get-up you wore when you went here.
Nice work bro! Would love to be at their head office Monday...did you order photos? No, did you order photos? No. Who the hell ordered photos?
Cool location and shots. Congrats on getting in. I laughed at your security guard tale. Sometimes you just have to go for it!
