Union shop, sheet metal fabricating plant. Consists of 2 large buildings and a water tower.I was here several months ago and couldn't gain access to either building, so I left empty handed. On my return visit I found that the local youths had provided me entry to both buildings. So if you are stumped by a building, don't give up, return later and opportunities may open up for you.

History

In 1895 C.W. Post of Battle Creek Michigan invented Postum, made from wheat, bran and molasses, and founded the Postum Cereal Company to manufacture his new breakfast cereal. In 1910 Post erected a factory to serve the Canadian market at this location.

Post went on to expand it's cereal product line and acquired other food companies and changed it's name to General Foods in 1929 to reflect this diversity.

The Windsor plant produced a variety of products including Alphabets and Puffed Wheat before moving production to Cobourg, Ontario. The buildings were used for warehousing for some time thereafter. Most of the plant has been demolished but two buildings and the landmark watertower remained standing.

Beautiful place, a real treat to see industrial pics. The basement shot (5c.jpg) with the shadows of the steps casting across the wall is absolutely phenomenal. And that's not even in high res! Can't imagine how good that must look full screen.
