Not much left at the property. I wanted to check the grounds for remnants of one of the oldest homes in Oakville but the snow is making me wait. Problem is, this property & its adjoining properties may not have much time left.

All that remains to be seen right now is an old cinder block garage.

A little history though. In 2007 the home on the property was considered in such a state of disrepair & unsafe that it was demolished, despite being listed as a Property of Heritage Value & it was on it's way to being Designated. The home was built by Benjamin Smith in 1822 & was the oldest home on record for the village of Palermo. It was one of the oldest houses recorded in Oakville & Halton as well.

It was requested of the owners that they would have a professional archeological dig of the property when it was demolished, whether that ever happened or not, I don't know. My guess is no, so I'm bringing a bucket & a shovel.
