A couple of weather beaten concrete pillars and an overgrown driveway say only one thing "explore!". A quick drive through some maple woods revealed a derelict surprise. From as far as I can tell this ramshackle old place was once used to produce delicious maple syrup. The older side contained the boiler and the newer addition contained a well and a collection of valves and pipes. It was once electrified due to the presence of rusty lightswitches and old knob and tube wiring. The place has obviously been abandoned for many years and the rusty syrup boiler revealed that it was a Bourque brand made at the foundry in Plessisville, Quebec. A Google search revealed that Plessisville calls itself the 'Maple Capitial of the World' so I figure they would know a thing or two about making a good syrup boiler. The foundry, now closed, was once completely destroyed by a fire in May 16th, 1885 along with most of the town. Pancakes with syrup anyone?
