I had driven by this road so many times but never noticed this little cemetery. It is right behind a big Township of Mapleton sign. I emailed the township and they sent me what information they had to me. It doesn't contain much history but it does list the names of each person in the cemetery. If anyone is interested I would be happy to email it to you. I tried to upload a link to it but it didn't work. One stone in particular stood out to me, I thought it had a skull on the top which I thought was rather strange. As Doom vs has pointed out....it is actually not a skull, but flowers. I didn't even realize until he pointed it out. I only saw the "eyes" looking up at me. This particular grave belongs to three children of the same family.

Really? That is interesting. Yeah...I couldn't understand why they would put a skull on their children's grave stone. Thanks Doom vs
That's not a skull. I've seen that in many boneyards. The white marble has eroded and it has taken on that appearance. Those are flowers. Pretty cool nevertheless.

Death's heads were popular in the 18th century, but by the 19th century gave way to religious symbolism and more uplifting motifs. Whereas cemeteries used to be disgusting hovels the Victorian age brought with it landscaped 'park' type settings.
