Thorndale Obsession

This place has been on my radar since June. I had passed by then en route to London, taking the scenic route of course, and noticed a caved in front porch, a demolished barn, and a yard seemingly rarely attended to. However, a visit was not to be that day. Fast forward to November 12. I was again going to London and decided to pass by again and do some quick recon. No car in the driveway again, nor apparent signs of habitation, although the old school gate was closed and there were dual no trespassing signs posted. Grass not touched for some time, although certainly not allowed to grow wild. Small hole in roof. Porch falling in. Crap all over the yard. Hedges all crazy. Google maps shows a busy looking property with a bus (gone) parked alongside the driveway. Street view shows no bus, but rather a crappy red pickup truck and an open gate, with no posted warning signs. The out of date image on street view also reveals slight deterioration since those pics were taken, so that was another clue to me that the house was sitting essentially idle. HOWEVER...the power looks still hooked up, and there is a beware of dog sign in one of the side windows, so although I was dying to check out the place at my leisure, I was actually feeling apprehensive. Curiosity always wins, but I kept it brief and superficial. My take on this place? The house is not in use. The owner still uses the grounds for farming purposes, i.e. access to the fields. I believe the beware of dog sign is a prop. I also believe the power lines remain intact and the grass is kept nominally cropped to keep vandals away. For a brief while I contemplated going to the front door but there is a thick cedar hedge obscuring the front of the property from the road and driveway, and acting as a wall which would impede a quick escape. So I really just wandered about the driveway area and got a feel for the place.

History? I consulted the 1878 atlas, and it shows the property being owned by a Richard Logan, with a structure indicated where the house is. So it(a)s at least that old.

I have to go back at some point to dig deeper. I would suggest anyone visiting to use caution, as the road is quite busy and there is no place to covertly park. All in is how i went, leaving my copilot out in the vehicle with the engine running lol...it is very close to the edge of the village, and with no idea who the owner of the land might be, a surprise encounter could very well happen! On my return trip home I contemplated another quick recon, but it was near dark. You might want to try approaching from the village side (west) and make your way through the side yard which is somewhat heavily treed.
