The old pump house in the Town of Chapleau was built in 1910. It served the community until 1976. This is considered a valuable historic landmark in the town, once responsible for supplying water from the river to the town system.
They have done a nice job of boarding up the abandoned pump house. The boards used to cover the windows have actually been painted to represent windows and frames, and the building regularly gets a fresh paint job to keep this landmark looking good. The local OPP detachment keeps a close eye on this building, but every once in a while an entry point opens up at the backdoor. Inside is very dark, but from what I could see at the time, most of the machinery and pumps are still in place.
