Christian Reesor was one of the first settlers in the Markham area. He was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on August 27, 1747, the son of swiss born parents Peter Rieser and Elizabeth Hershey. In 1796 Christian moved to Franklin County, Pennsylvania, with his wife Fanny Reiff and their family. At the same time, Christian’s 21 year old son Peter visited the settlement of York (Toronto) sending back glowing reports of the good life in Upper Canada. After the death of his father in 1804, Christian moved his family to York County, Upper Canada. Christian and Fanny, headed north with their daughter Elizabeth and her husband Abram Stouffer. They settled on Concession 10 Lot 14 in Markham. . The Reesors are one of the key families in the settlement of Markham and Whitchurch.
The buildings that are photographed sit on the original site where Christian Reesor first settled. I wasn(a)t able to access the buildings at the time, so I do not know what they are, but I certainly plan to go back.

I did check sideline 28 as well and found the White farmstead. Hey Robert..I lived on Roseway near Church and Wooten Way..Great place to grow up= back then EVERYONE played hockey in our neighbourhood.
lol Clay. Apparently we were neighbours. Lived on Senator Reesors Dr. in the 80's.
Christian's grandson Christian actually built the Altona Mill house. Be sure to check out the sideline to the east of Altona as well .. some abandoned places there too!
Love it. The Reesors, Stouffers, Milnes and Berczys first settled the area from Penn State indeed. I used to go Reesor Park Public School in the 1970s. I will be up at Altona tomorrow so check the photos soon..
