This location has spotty cell service, and being remote, carries the risk of encounters with wild animals.
Access to the site can be difficult without either a hike or use of an ATV or well equiped 4x4 vehicle. Road conditions can vary based on the time of year and weather.
Initially discovered and a shaft sunk in 1917, the underground workings were extended in the 30s and then again in the 50s. The site appears to have been drilled and sampled more recently but the mine itself has been abandoned since the 50s.
A long abandoned gold mine to the east of Iroquois Falls and to the north of Matheson ON.
Access is via Forestry Road north from highway 101, just east of Matheson. After about 25kms there is a fork, with the road to Twindyke on the right. Beyond that point a GPS capable device would be best for navigating directly to the site.
Conditions on the last stretch are variable with weather so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.
The site itself is spread out over a hill and crossroads. When arriving at the crossroads, the hoist winch will be visible on the path to the left as a convenient visual indicating you've arrived at the right place.
There are some foundations, metal debris and open holes around the top of the hill where the winch is located. To the southeast there is a concrete building foundation that may have been worker quarters or a cookhouse.
