History of Merritton NS&T Bridge

This bridge originally carried the NS&T electric railway. The bridge was in service until 2007 when it fell victim to arson. Repairs on the bridge were too expensive so the railway and all 3 of its bridges were abandoned and eventually demolished.

A few years ago, if you drove over the Merritt Street overpass you'd see a rusty bridge spanning the tracks. It looked very out of place because the embankment that carried the tracks was completely dug out and cleared, leaving a completely inaccessible bridge floating 30ft. in the air. It was pretty easy to climb onto the bridge, but only if you had the upper body strength to do so. Majority of the railroad ties on the bridge were charred from the fire in 2007. It was dismantled in November 2018.

RE: "I was actually able to get into the building today, it's pretty cool in there." -- ahaaa! No kidding! Well, that's definitely a first. Can't wait to see what you found in there, if it's an upcoming post.

I've often wondered about the large and (predominantly) unmarked warehouse beside the tracks here, but stopped checking it for abandonment after the solar panel array showed up completely covering the roof on satellite.
