Hazards of Michigan Central Bridge

There are large walls with barbed wire and cameras. Border security consistently patrols the area as well.

History of Michigan Central Bridge

This bridge used to carry rail traffic into Canada. Built in 1925, it was utilized by multiple railroads over the years, most recently by Conrail until the early 1990's, then Canadian Pacific until the early 2000's. The line was originally double tracked until the late 1980's. The line also passed directly through the tourist area at the top of Clifton Hill, constantly causing massive delays. The last train crossed the bridge in December 2001. The railway was sold to make way for the Fallsview Casino and was completely removed by the end of 2002. The rusty arch bridge still remains with an unknown future.

The Michigan Central Bridge is situated directly beside the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge, which is still in use today. It's easy to access, but there's not really any point. All that remains is an empty bridge deck and a bunch of security cameras.

Some great views of the old, abandoned police station from the west side of the bridge deck, if you don't mind getting close to the homeless encampment.
