Hazards of Bum Bridge Remnants

There's not really any major hazards, but there is a 15 foot drop at the edge of the wall. The tracks beneath are also active.

History of Bum Bridge Remnants

These are the old supports from a bridge that once connected the CN Thorold subdivision to the CN Merritton yard. It was nicknamed “Bum Bridge" because of the large presence of homeless people that would frequently be seen underneath it. It was removed in the mid 70's because it became obsolete, due to the fact that there was a much more direct track that connected to the yard, which is still in use to this day.

This location is fairly easy to access. It's located directly behind the Seaway office building on Glendale Ave. If you go up the Seaway hill, you'll see a few paths that lead to the railroad tracks. (Which are very active) If you follow the tracks you'll see 2 walls on both sides. Being on top of the walls provides a nice view of the 4th Welland Canal and the Garden City Skyway. It's also a popular graffiti spot. You can also see the roadbed that once carried the tracks, and on the side closest to Glendale you can even see that some of the railroad ties are still in place.
