Haynes Pioneer Cemetery

This closed 229 year old pioneer cemetery, was in use from 1788-1861. The original log cabin was approx.250 metres west of this cemetery and that of Peter Haynes. That would put the cabin right on the now, Commerce Place, in fact that was probably their driveway. During the War of 1812 livestock was stolen from the Haynes Homestead from both the British and American forces. The land was eventually sold to Thompson Products by the last Haynes , Laura, in 1952, as she had no children. Her husband Fred C. Haynes [6th generation] died in 1948. At some point the land was acquired by the City Of St. Catharines and the now site of the Hannah-Seymour Sports complex. The 40 ton monument that Laura had done in 1948, west of the cemetery, must be somewhere else or in the trees. I parked west of the cemetery at the now lube place and did not see it.
