Caution: Broken Glass

The Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company (PPG) was founded in 1883 in Creighton, Pennsylvania & soon became known as the "Glass Trust". PPG Industries, Inc. is a global supplier of paints, coatings, specialty materials, and fiberglass. ([i]Corporate information courtesy of Wikipedia[/i]).

The PPG Oshawa plant served as a large supplier of glass & coatings to GM Oshawa until 2016, when the plant shut down. This was largely due to the dramatic downsizing of GM Oshawa, & PPG suffered the same fate as other component suppliers in the area, such as AG Simpson. The company's Canadian Regional Purchasing and Distribution offices were also based here.

The entire property is fenced, and there are cameras on the guard gate out front, although I question whether or not they are still active. Most of the fencing is new, and you are exposed to neighbours on the entirety of both the east and west sides of the property. This was a first visit, and I'm hoping to gain access to the buildings themselves next time. This looks like a very sweet location, and one well worth checking out before it is either repurposed or demolished.

There is a proposal to repurpose the property, although, to date, these plans have not come to fruition.
