Hazards of Wrigley's Castle

During the summer, mosquitoes were everywhere, making it hard to explore the area. I had to cut my visit short because it was unbearable. I also spotted quite a few poison ivy plants along the trail. While it's avoidable, just be cautious.

The Wrigley Castle has an extensive history. It was originally built by the Wrigley family, who later turned it into a hotel. The castle's stunning appearance makes it a popular spot for photography.

In the past, the castle has faced some challenges. A fire caused significant damage to the interior, though the walls of the structure remain intact. Other buildings nearby are also worth exploring.

Local residents often share stories about the castle's past. Some versions suggest that a family once lived there, and a tragic event occurred. One story claims that the father accidentally started a fire that killed his wife and child, while another suggests he may have caused the fire intentionally for financial reasons. The truth behind these stories remains unclear.

Despite its dark history, the castle is still admired for its beautiful interior, including its impressive woodwork & stone design all around.

Today, the property is privately owned but continues to attract visitors interested in its beauty and interesting history.

I spoke with a lady here and she said there was another abandoned house with items left behind about a 30 minute walk down the trail... I can't find it on Google earth though. Anyone know about it??

Very well preserved, Visit when the leaves are off the trees for a better view. The site has been respected very well by people and not vandalized.

My family use to buy eggs and pies from the Wrigley's. They had a pond on the farm with fish that were released to the lake. The house was built of rocks from the lake or found on the property. They were very helpful when the neighbours had construction projects as they owned a front loader.

WOW this place is phenomenal! I love that stone work, completely amazing!. I have never seen a building that's built like that, that has this much structure left still standing. I would be awesome if someone can find some history behind this place. Spectacular find! and great photos guys!

Hey lets have a preservation party...lol...Actually as it stands now I am quite happy with it. I think Oro Medonte should maintain it and use it as a tourist draw with gardens and such..Too bad they let Cahiague (Huron city of 1615 AD) and its historic marker go down the drain..
