In 1934, air travel came to the Bonnechere Valley with the construction of the Killaloe Airport and the aeradio/weather station. Built by relief workers during the depression, they opened in 1938.
With the cold war, the airport was closed in 1958 when the Bonnechere airport was opened NW of Round Lake with a 6600 ft landing strip to service interceptors.
The weather station continued in service until it was closed in 1972, two years before the closing of the Foymount radar base nearby.
The tower has been removed, but the bases are still there, and being avoided by the farmer when mowing the field. Look for the clumps of grass and trees to find them.
I have been unable to locate the original airport with its 3 runways, but that just gives me another trip to explore. If anyone can help me there I would appreciate it.

Great interior. A lot to see in there. I like the old electronic wall racks.

The runways were closer to Killaloe. Just before the turn to Killaloe, there are two or three government type houses now privately owned. The runways were behind them. Check google earth, or the County of Renfrew mapping (aerial) and they are still visible.
