Thank you for making this a full member location. I didn't want to see his property ransacked by vandals.
In high school I made a short documentary on Jon Van Der Heart. He was a very intriguing man. I am happy to have been able to record a part of his story. I have even more footage, for those that are interested in learning more about Jon PM me. Here is the link to the youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1dwuF2dGDg
This place is well borded up now.
Went there last night searched for an hour to find the place. This has definitely been demolished.
Went to check this out tonight and couldn't find any way in. We noticed two cameras pointed right at us so we got the hell out of there. Didn't get to snag any photos.
Visited a few weeks ago and it was completely borded up. No point of entry, but I did see a cellar door that might be a plausible POE.
It's sad to think that this place was once a beautiful park and because of the statue thief, it has been forgotten.
It definitely was difficult walking the trails without snowshoes. I should invest in a pair and keep em in my truck.
As in holding pen I mean a wooden version of one of these... http://www.orderstorm.com/wordpress-ecommerce-images/cartimages/m/59096.jpg
If you continue to walk straight where Walkers Line ends, it turns into a trail that then leads to the Bruce Trail. You will walk right passed the holding pen.
Had a great time checking this place out last night. A little disappointed that we couldnt find the basement if there even was one.
Me and two friends went into the stables and kept hearing clunks coming from upstairs. We thought it was just an animal until we got half way down the hall and we heard loud foot steps of someone walking around upstairs. We left the barn and noticed that there were fresh foot prints in the snow going towards the barn but none leading away.
Thats interesting. When we visited we didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I love reading the inscriptions on these 100 year old tombstones.
I drove to this location yesterday, it has been totally demolished including the forrest backing the property. It's a shame.
Anyone know any information on the gunclubs that used to be associated here? Sounds interesting.
