That writing on the side, "You'll enjoy shopping at Simpson's", I seem to remember that was part of a jingle, got a bit of a tune running around in my head but I can't finish it off.
In picture #9, is that an old horseshoe that's been embedded in the concrete block to help lift and position it? If so it's an interesting re-use of old material.
"Most likely due to the constant wind generated by the nearby fans." Nope, those fans don't generate wind, they just use it to turn turbines. In fact by doing so they would slow down the overall wind speed in the area, but not by a discernible amount.
Dead porcupine is unusual.

Don't mean to seem picky, but it's an observatory, not a planetarium, they are not the same thing. I'm not familiar with this one, but you may be able to find out more about it if you contact the Toronto chapter of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Judging from the size of the building this is far more than an amateur set-up Unless the owner had megabucks), it looks like it was part
In my opinion if the zoo was smart they would erect some fencing along each side, in order to make it safe, and turn it into a walking trail. There is an elevated trail at the Belle Isle zoo in Detroit and it's quite nice, it gives you a good look into some of the enclosures where the resident animals might otherwise be out of sight from ground level.
Does pic#9 show an old outhouse? Sure looks like a toilet seat to me.
I would presume that Andrew Lapp was related to the Lapps who had the cider mill in Cedar Grove, on Reesor Road near 14th Avenue. Had a lot of their product when I was a kid!

Back in the 70's I spent a week there one day (yeah, it was that slow). There used to be an old building that housed one of the only two restaurants in town, and from the outside you could see that the roof was bowed but with a distinct point in the middle, imagine a very flattened 'W'. You found out why when you entered. The roof was sagging, and in the centre of the floor was a hydraulic j
