Here's a real update... The trailers on the south end of the property (on the No Frills side of the overpass) are there for the construction happening just up the road on Eglinton. Building 9 has not changed much since my previous visit 1 yr ago and the ruins of the other buildings are pretty much the same as well. Doesn't look like its going anywhere anytime soon :)
I was in there around August. We got in pretty easily, started walking around and realized there where about a dozen ppl working right around the corner from where we were.
See update and link. That's why there was a big gaping hole... :(
I've already got a busy weekend planned but I'll let you know if I can squeeze it in.
@Phrenzee: How anoying was security? Cuz this place just made my to do list!
Here are the GPS coordinates to the cemetary 46.234812,-80.852854. When you're there, you'll see an old dirt road that branches off towards the cemetary, just drive in as much as you can and walk the rest of the way (about 10-15mins). As for time of year, I say fall is the best simply because there are less bugs.
Here a link to pics of the confinement room: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2012/01/06/toronto-confinement-house.html?cmp=rss If you're on UER, there's a public thread about it and Beer Bunny has been and has pics, although she's only posted a few of them.
-- UPDATE -- Popped by last night with Logtec (UER) with the intention of taking a few night shots from the roof, only to discover a new chain link fence gate had beed put in at the entrance of the property. Luckily it was pretty easy to go around but we noticed tire tracks that seemed to indicate it had been patrolled that day. We arrived at the main building to find that all the usual POEs in
I can send you a google maps like to the cemetary and map it out for you when I get home later tonight. I'll send you a pm.
@that-girl: I went for an overnight camping trip there 3 times last summer and it's great. Easy access if you don't mind the 5km hike in (road is blocked by large cement blocks, only ATVs can get through). There's no security or anything of the sort. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth the detour.
Sure it was a good idea to leave DNA evidence behind thought? Lol! ;)
Thanks Magle! :)
I agree this place is a lil eerie, specially on a windy one like today where everything creeks, squeaks and bangs, but after a few minutes you get used to it. No signs of homeless dens during my visit and I covered the whole thing... well except the basement :$
The spot lights have been there for a while and the place has been fenced off for as long as I've been going there. If you walk around though, there are plenty of holes to go through. There was a development project a while ago but nothing has been done. Check out my @ Night '11 set for night shots with the help of those spots
