this would be either active or historic location. It is not abandoned

As a rockhounder... great post!

Changed Status to "Historic Location" as it is certianly not abandoned if they slapped a new roof on it and have all this signage in it. Neat cabin. Pretty well preserved for the age.

If you want to visit the abandoned sawmill (all that remains is its concrete structure) go to exactly (45.5709169, -78.7255533) where the round concrete dock thing is, close to where the broken railroad tracks are in the water. Walk up shore about 10m to the beaten path, turn right, boom there it is. A carved inscription of Nov 18 1938 can be seen on the flat side.

The military silo property became a storage unit property and is still active today. There was a few film productions shot there - not sure if the films are released yet. There was also a death on the property in the last 6-7 years where someone fell into a silo while looking at a vehicle, being stored, for sale. The owners plead guilty and where fine $100k for the incident.

Were there any underground walking tunnels between the buildings and if so is there any records of them?
chukychild • 2 years ago
do you think its worth going, or will it just be scattered foundations?

Yes I never could find a name with this photo. Please do share your name as the credit

Hi Clay70. Can I talk to you about permission to use some of this information for a plaque at the Widdifield tower site in North Bay? Thanks!

Sadly most of the buildings have been demolished. Only the main mill remains. Logging has also started along the main road.

Just wow. First time visiting Kiosk, and Algonquin. Found some neat bridges etc. but nothing compares to what I believe to be an old trapping hut. We bushwhacked our own trail down the river bank and eventually got to an impasse, when I noticed some heavily wooded tin sticking out of the ground. Looking further we found strange objects like cooking tools, walls, an old engine block, even a snowmobile abandoned in the river for who knows how long. Wish I could find a back story on this!
