Today(a)s adventure begins near Serpent River just west of Sudbury. This location was a spot where up until approximately the mid-1980(a)s your tired traveller could spend the night after many hours of travelling the Trans Canada Highway. When the business was no longer able to compete with the more modern establishments in the area it was closed.
While the motel provided a night(a)s rest for an exhausted father and his cranky family, the lack of amenities within the small rooms would have made the stay a very simple one. The rooms were quite small, there were no cooking facilities and a single child(a)s swing provided the only entertainment for younger children.
Fortunately before the advent of electronic entertainment devices, brace yourselves, families were known to be able to cope with such overnight jaunts by playing board games together or by taking walks together.
The property was brought back to life in 2010 as a residence and possible reopening as a motel but by 2011 the doors were locked and the weeds reclaiming the land as their own.

I am seeing more and more motels like this fall by the wayside on the highway these days.
"Board Games"? "Taking walks together"? Yikes!!! The cranky family part will never change!

The motel was called the Kennebec Motel. I actually stayed there one night, back in the late 1970s.
