Feltville, also known as the ghost village of New Jersey is one of the most rumored villages located in the Watchung Reservation in Berkeley Heights, Union County, United States. It is also known as the Deserted village, some of the village buildings dating to the 18th century. There are many stories of history, haunting, failure, and promises about this place.

History of Feltville

In 1844 a businessman named David Felt purchased lands here for his sawmill and also made two dams and a small town for the workers. He named this small town Feltville, after his name he named this small town. Soon he gets the name of King David from the people of this small town, as the people of this town respect him very much. In 1885 more than 175 people resided here and a church was active with an occupant pastor. After 15 years of the town building, David started to lose in many failed attempts of businesses; he sold the town to Warren Ackerman in 1882 after many unsuccessful business attempts. Till that time the town got the name of the "deserted village" as many people moved away from here to the city for work. Ackerman transformed the Feltville town into a summer resort and renamed it Glenside park, but it did not last long as people preferred the beaches of New Jersey more than this place.

Abandonment of Feltville

Since the failure of the summer resort, the place was again desolated. In later years the Union County Park Commission bought the land and included the area to Watchung Reservation, and rented the houses to families and the hall of the old town served as a cafeteria and lectures hall from 1966 to 1984. Today there are only three permanent residents here in this old town.

Many others share their experiences that they felt some kind of dread whenever they passed through these forests.
