Hazards of Home of Truth: The land of the Virgin Mary

Home of truth is located in a semi-desert region of Utah which is dominated by various dangerous animals like rattlesnakes hiding in the abandoned structures.

Home of truth is a former spiritual community located in San Juan County, Utah. The community created by Marie Ogden (a wealthy widow from New Jersey) was established to show her followers the way of life before the second coming of Christ. Controversies led to the town being deserted by its followers rendering it a ghost town.

Implementation of a vision

Marie Ogden after the death of her husband believed that you can be able to talk to a dead loved one if you are spiritual enough. This motivation drove him to join spiritualist William Dudley missions believing that one day he may be able to talk to her husband. After years of working together, Marie Ogden parted ways with William and she started her spiritual ministry claiming to be reincarnated, Virgin Mary. During one of her spiritual tours, Ogden revealed that she had a vision and she has been directed to establish a spiritual colony in readiness for the second coming of Christ. In 1933, she acquired land in Utah and together with her 21 disciples established the colony.

Cult in the offing

The colony which started with only Mary, her daughter, and 21 disciples soon grew to a rocking 100 people. Marie, who was the leader of the whole pack made the rules and enforced them. All her members who joined the colony were forced to surrender all their earthly possessions to the colony. They never planted or kept large animals except for chicken which they forsook when it was forbidden to eat any kind of meat.

No way to heaven?

Controversies began following the small town of Home of truth when one of their members died and Ogden claimed she would bring her back to life. This was never the case, after months of preserving the body Ogden was arrested and forced to sign a death certificate. It was at this time that a follower came clean and admitted to helping Ogden dispose of the body when police began getting interested in the activities at Home of Truth. Followers abandoned Home of Truth leaving Marie Ogden and her seven die hard followers who refused to leave.

Can one visit the Home of Truth?

Marie Ogden after being forsaken by her beloved followers sold Home of Truth and moved to a nearby nursing home where she died. She is yet to be reincarnated. A few followers continued to live in the town but were later evicted when the new owner sold the remaining contents of the inner portal. New owners of the Home of truth do not allow people to go into the property for fear of vandalism. He works on preserving the towns’ inner portal as he plans on allowing the general public to tour the infamous town.
