Gateway to Decline

Demolished Motel/Hotel in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada

Was once aptly named, since the Gateway Motel was one of the first buildings that cars coming off the Peace Bridge from the U.S. encountered while heading down Fort Erie's main drag. Now it is nothing more than the gateway to the economic recession that has gripped the town. Satellite view from before the abandonment shows the roof here already beginning to collapse even with two cars still parked in the lot, so maybe it was one of those hotels that had live-in residents right near the end. Lots of pitfalls can be found here just inside the doors to several units. One can only wonder how many hapless teens have plummeted through in the last few years.

Some rooms are pristine, some are falling through the floors, some smell toxic.

Great job cracking this one GS. DM420 and I drove past here this summer and there was a car parked in the lot. He said that car is always there so I went back and checked the plate after our meet..it had a current sticker so I left without pulling on any doors.
