Entering Glanmire from the south. The fork to the right leads to Glanmire Lake and according to modern maps this is the downtown core. There are old cedar fencing remains up the hill to the right as well as on the Glanmire Lake Rd.
Old fallen wooden structure in the field between the creek and cemetery. This structure can be seen on the 1948 topo map here: http://www.library.utoronto.ca/maplib/digital/G_3400s_50_1948-31C13_east_1st.pdf
Another old fallen wooden structure in the field between the creek and cemetery. This one is further back in the field. I suspect this was the real downtown of Glanmire.
Yes mortality rates were high and many died far too young along the Old Hastings Rd. but look at the age on this old coot..He lived til the age of 96. I wonder what he was eating to live that long in Glanmire. Miraculous!!
The land had to be cleared by winter in order to a) build a home b) plant crops c) secure the land grant from the government. Women had to help as well. Courtesy Mary Fitzmorris
