This is an old trading post on Sagamok Reserve. Its called Fort La Cloche. There used to be a horse and buggy bridge out to Aird Island offshore as the river was too shallow for big boats. Very nice scenery around here :)
Old Shakesphere gold mine in Webbwood. At one time this was the richest gold field in Ontario. Gold was discovered in 1903 and Mining operations opened up in about. 1905. All that's here is some tailings, what's left of the two shafts and a cement platform. As well as an airhole into the mine, and a few pieces of stairs down the mountain.
Location is hard to find. Roads are rough and have lots of logging trucks traveling them. This tower may be reached after a long hike up a steep hill. Loads of fallen trees everywhere. Main danger is bears. Property of Lands & Forest. Reports from some logger friends say MNR may reactivate this tower next year or two .
