Top 3 Abandoned Places In North Stormont

There are so many abandoned places in North Stormont! This is a list of the top three abandoned places in North Stormont. Browse through all abandoned places in North Stormont

1. Fleming Cemetery

A marvelously well maintained pioneer cemetery commemorating the founding families of Finch, Ontario. (as a fat old man, I cherish this place as they still let me play hockey here...with a bunch of Junior B players!!).

The sign indicates this location of the final resting places of 15 pioneers (one set of twins). The farmer (who I assume is still a Fleming) maintains a mowed path to the site.

2. Keeping Up Appearances

Prior to the advent of multi-lane divided highways, highways like #43 were major east-west routes. If you were a good mechanic, opening a garage along such a road would guarantee that you would not starve. Hundreds of these garages opened through the 1920's and 1930's. Even as late as the 1960's, customer loyalty kept a number of these enterprises going in spite of the increased reliability of vehicles, and the decreasing traffic on these roads.

One such garage was Pat Hotte Auto outside Monkland. As I was driving past I noticed the front of the building peeking out of the trees. When I stopped I found that the front was about the only intact part left of the building. The back has collapsed, as had a trailer off to the side where Pat had obviously been living.

The contents appear to be all there in both cases. The latest dated item I found was for 1972.

3. Deer on the Door

Home that would have been along the original north-south alignment through Crysler, ON prior to safety considerations mandating the use of a curved approach into towns and at county road intersections.

The house is generally surrounded by vegetation and carpets (yes, that is correct). It is well secured but may be less well secured in the future (as is true with all abandoned places really....). The neighbours stared at me (or, perhaps at my car and/or beautiful wife) but otherwise let me be. Of course, I didn't actually try to break into the place, so, that may have helped.
