Ontario Abandoned Places will be rebranded as Ominous Abandoned Places

Help please!

I live in Ontario, and would like to become an urban explorer for thrill, adventure, education, and to meet people. I found this site a few months ago, and just learned about the level feature. I have a few questions on how to level up, and was hoping for some guidance! Firstly, what is considered meaningful content when contributing to places? Second of all, what is the current application fee for level 2? My most pressing questions are about submitting new locations: How should I find new locations? I have a level 3 location that I want to post, but I don't know if it's already been submitted, as I can't see the higher level postings. Finally, does anybody have general tips on urbex? Thank-you for reading all of this, and I will appreciate any answers provided. Have a great day!

First of all There is no application fee. It just says that. I've never been charged for getting approved. Meaningfull content is non-blurry photos that are somewhat high quality. You should post multiple photos of both inside and outside a location. If you submit a location that is already submitted it will be merged automatically. When I first joined all of my postings were merged into another.

It's great to see some new people get into the hobby! I'll try to answer all the questions you have. 1st: Meaningful content can mean a lot of things, but to me it means photography. (different from just taking pictures in my opinion). You should try to make a eye-catching composition, through editing, position, or however else. Another example of meaningful content is old, historic photos that haven't been shared before. You may be able to find some of these through the Bobcaygeon Public Library's online archive, or the one in Lindsay. Both are in your area. They won't be as easy to find as Toronto, but there still are some good photos of now abandoned places there. I would recommend against posting albums of just exteriors, esspecially if it is clear you didn't try to gain entry in to the building. The whole point of the hobby is exploring abandoned places not just the outside, or as the FAQ says "This website isn't for the armchair photographer, it's for people who want to get down and dirty and venture into places." As DecayDiver said, there is no application fee, and instead the thing to focus on when leveling up is the quality of the content that you post. When election time comes for you to be made into Level 2, that is what people will judge you on. I would suggest having the minimum requirements, lots of photos of the inside of houses, and sharing your view of exploring. The elections aren't about what places you will go to after you level up, it's about the places you've been to get you to that level. You find new locations by going out and exploring. Check backroads, check google satelite view, ask around, google "abandoned places XXX" and click the results that aren't OAP. The Kawarthas are absolutely filled with farms tucked away on backroads. Get out more, and you'll figure it out. If you have a location of a higher level, just make the location at that level. If it already exists, then that location will be merged, and you'll be able to view the past photos of the location you went to, if it doesn't exist, then congrats! You found a location! As for general tips: Protect yourself, don't be afraid to get your hands dirty, and stay safe. As for "rules": don't destroy anything, and don't vandalize anything. Everything else you'll figure out.
