1. Motel Longbranch

Long Branch Motel

Built in 1887, the hotel was quite known and famous and saw its time of glory, It had closed in the late 1990s and saw a brief revival in the early 2000’s when it was reopened for approximately one year.

The flame that overwhelmed the long branch motel

Sources say there was a huge fire, firefighters came by the scene,9 of them were injured while trying to extinguish the fire, the fire started around 2 pm or 3 pm, and wasn’t out till 9 pm or 10. The fire was so huge, the area was practically covered in smoke for hours, with a crowd of 3000 people, and police aiding the rescue, and 300 firemen fighting the fire.

Long branch motel- Abandoned, and at nature’s mercy

Today it sits abandoned along the highway. Water has made its way into the building, creating unsafe mold growth from the ceiling and soggy flooring in the hallway. The place is in shambles, a lot of suites are just wrecked and with graffiti, with each passing year, a layer of snow and algae just builds up, deteriorating it even further. There is potential for someone to fall through the hallway floor if they are not careful.

A few chairs, bedding, a lamp, and a television remain. Remarkably this place is untouched by vandals, possibly due to the OPP police station just down the road.

2. Still River Truck Stop

The Still River Truck Stop was a combination gas bar, garage and restaurant.

The restaurant stools give the location a look that you might find in an old movie.

At the leftmost of the building you will find the garage containing old licence plates and assorted equipment.

Next is the restaurant where you(a)ll find plates sitting on the counter as if they were just placed there by the waitress.

There(a)s a Bell payphone in the main entrance which was never removed by the phone company. Next to the lobby is a living area with a large screen television set, couch, and magazines.

Another room contains a bedroom and dresser.

Information submitted by cdsleep@gmail.com:

I grew up on the other side of Hwy 69 at the OPP station, it was always called the Deerhorn back then. I knew three of the owners under that name: Fred & Margaret Henry; Fred & Shirley Stoerig; and Ernie Courvoisier (might have Ernie(a)s name spelled wrong). During the sixties and seventies, the Deerhorn was always jam-packed with trucks. It(a)s sad to see that it has been abandoned, but it was in a difficult spot to develop modern amenities, being squeezed between the highway and the railway tracks as it is.

3. Cedar Chuckwagon- Estaire

The Cedar Chuckwagon was a roadside restaurant, giftshop and gas station and went out of business in the late 1980's. The main building is rather large with 2 other out buildings on the property. The buildings have fallen victim to the rigors of nature. Please take care if you choose to explore because the floor beneath the carpet in the 'residence' side of the main building has completely rotted and is very unstable. It is NOT recommended that access to the upper floors be attempted due to deterioration of the staircases. The out buildings also pose a hazard due to the amount of garbage strewn about inside them. Be careful and enjoy the 'splore!

Also, I didn't personally encounter any ghosts or ghostly activity, as a previous explorer had experienced, but I did disturb a resident family of swallows! Pictured in my gallery is 'mother' staring me down after I had inadvertently scattered her fledglings from their perch beneath the Kodak sign! After flying kamikaze style around my head, I had decided that it was best to vacate the area so that mommy could get a handle on her young once again!
